Relay

Transactional email that authenticates properly and measures nothing — no open tracking, no click rewriting, no pixel.

Relay is the mail path behind every Ciphera service: the verification emails, the alerts, the invoices, the "someone signed in from a new device" notices. It carries transactional mail only, and it is available for your own applications by arrangement rather than self-serve signup.

What makes it different from the usual

Most transactional email providers measure the recipient. An invisible pixel reports when a message was opened, and every link is rewritten to route through the provider's domain so clicks can be counted. Both are tracking, and both happen to people who never agreed to it and are usually not the customer.

Relay does neither. There is no open tracking, so no pixel is inserted. There is no click tracking, so the links in a message are the links you wrote. What you get back is delivery: whether the receiving server accepted the message, and what it said if it did not.

That is a deliberate trade. If your requirement is an open-rate dashboard, this is the wrong tool and we would rather say so here.

Authentication, which is the part that decides delivery

Mail that is not properly authenticated does not arrive, so this is where the work is:

  • DKIM — per-domain signing keys, so a receiver can verify the message was signed by the domain it claims to come from.
  • SPF — strict, naming exactly the hosts allowed to send for the domain.
  • DMARC — a reject policy, so a receiver is told to discard mail that fails both of the above rather than deliver it to spam and hope.
  • TLS 1.3 on every hop it controls, with reverse DNS configured so the sending host's HELO identity resolves the way receivers expect.

Sending is standard SMTP. There is no SDK to adopt and no proprietary API to build against, so anything that can already send mail can send through Relay.

Unsubscribing

api.relay.ciphera.net/v1/unsubscribe is a permanent endpoint. A one-click unsubscribe link in a Ciphera message keeps working regardless of what changes behind it — that address is treated as a commitment to recipients rather than an implementation detail, and it does not move.

Data

Logs are kept for 30 days, and they record delivery outcomes rather than recipient behaviour. Mail is handled on infrastructure in Switzerland, on a host whose IP reputation and reverse DNS are bound to it — which is why mail is the one part of the estate that does not move around.

Note

There is no self-serve signup for Relay, and no dashboard to create an API key in. Sending your own mail through it starts with a conversation — contact us.
